Are you aware of the changes with the proposed changes to first aid?
New draft guidance by the HSE to help employers with the proposed first aid changes (due on 1 October 2013) has been published. The main change is the removal of the requirement for the HSE to approve first aid training providers, although providers will be required to meet a certain standard, set by HSE. Further information can be found – http://www.hse.gov.uk/firstaid/proposed-changes-first-aid-regulations.htm
However, until 1 October 2013, employers should note that first aid training for the purposes of work can only be delivered by HSE approved training providers. (A list of approved training providers can be found on the HSE’s website.)
Removing the HSE approval process will give businesses greater flexibility to choose a training provider and first aid training that is right for their work place, and based on their individual business needs.
The legal requirement for employers to ensure they have an adequate number of suitably trained first aiders (or appointed persons) in accordance with their first aid needs assessment will remain unchanged.
