The HSE has released a new guidance document and ACOP supporting the Control of Substances Hazardous to Health Regulations, as part of its ongoing work to make the semi-legal documents more comprehensible.
The new ACOP (L5) is aimed at management, supervisory staff, safety representatives and technical specialists and has been revised to clarify and simplify practical advice to help Dutyholders comply with the requirements of Control of Substances Hazardous to Health (COSHH).
The main changes to the COSHH ACOP (released on 3 December 2013) includes updating the material supporting regulations 7, 9, 10 and 11 to take account of legislative changes, such as the Regulations for the Registration, Evaluation, Authorisation and restriction of Chemicals (REACH) and the Classification, Labelling and Packaging of substances and mixtures (CLP).
Additionally, advice provided in the Appendices to the previous ACOP has either been repositioned next to the relevant regulation or will be made available separately on the HSE website.
Note – Legal responsibilities to protect workers’ health and safety are not altered by any changes to ACOPs.
Revised ACOP is available on the HSE website – http://www.hse.gov.uk/pubns/books/l5.htm
